Patrcik Schofield : Social Entrepreneur of the Year !!! November 17, 2008

Last Tuesday (13th November), Patrick for Streetwires was awarded as the South African Social Entrepreneur 2008! Therefore he gains access to the meetings of the World Economic Forum as well as the Schwab Foundation’s global network, providing unprecedented opportunities to engage global decision-makers from the public, corporate, media and academic sectors to strengthen and expand the SW’s model.

Congratulations! We are so proud of this award!!! Patrick came at the studio on Friday to show us the trophee!

An overview about this competiton :

“In a country which is steeped in hope and potential but which faces enormous challenges, social  entrepreneurs have become change agents for society. They are individuals who seek to generate ‘social value’ rather than profit and create sustainable solutions that help society.

Ernst & Young and the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship are pleased to recognise the efforts and achievements of these individuals through the annual South African Social Entrepreneur awards. The finalists were Malizole Gwaxula and Jacob Lief of Ubuntu Education Fund, Shane Immelman of Lapdesk, Charles Maisel of Innovation Shack, Trevor Mulaudzi of The Clean Shop and Patrick Schofield of Streetwires Artists Collective.

Bye bye “Mama Africa” November 14, 2008

The famous South African singer Miriam Makeba passed away during Sunday night, she was 76.

She was one of the legendary African voices and a symbol of the struggle against apartheid. Her famous song Pata Pata - Myriam Makeba (1956) goes around the world.

She was born on 4^th March 1932 in Jo’burg. She began sing in the 50’s with the “Manhattan brother”. She came back to South Africa in 1990 with the Madiba’s liberation after years in exile in Guinea, United States and France.

Rest in peace Mama Africa.

Patrick Schofield MD of Streetwires was nominated this year as a finalist for social entrepreneur of the year, together with other 5 competitors. As the first and only truly global award of its kind, the SA Entrepreneur Of The Year celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses. It   recognizing them through regional, national and global awards programs.

Each year the national Entrepreneur Of The Year winners from around SA meet in Johannesburg to be inducted into the Entrepreneur Of The Year Academy and vie for the title of Entrepreneur Of The Year.

Winners of all categories will be announced on the 13^th of November 2008 at Summer place, Hyde park in JHB.

The weather was just so lovely this week-end. After spending all Saturday afternoon on the Clifton beach in Cape Town, on Sunday we decided to go to Hermanus. This city is one hour and half drive from Cape Town, it is well-known as whale-watching spot! We spended all the day to go around in the town, go along the sea and we saw three whales, and one really close to us! It’s a facinating show! These whales weight round 27t and the size can be 14meters (the birth-size is already 4,5meters). Hermanus is also a nice quiet town to go for a walk, to see the old harbour and to eat great seafood.

It was really nice to spend a day outside from the city and breathe sea air!

 

 

                     

Madiba October 20, 2008

Below, you can admire the Madiba statue (2m tall !!!). You can see it in our gallery at 77 Shortmarket Street in Cape Town. He is all made in wire and beads. Nelson Mandela is a symbol for the new South Africa! You can learn more about this loved and respected political figure in reading his autobiographic book : A long Walk to Freedom.
